Quaggy Development Trust is a community anchor run by and for local people. To date it has established itself as a powerful force for change in a pocket of deprivation in the top 10% of the most deprived local authority areas in the UK is a community anchor run by and for local people.
The Trust recognised a gap in it’s services created, ironically, by the success of the Sure Start initiative – what would children benefitting from early years services do once they were too old for provision?
Working with multiple stakeholders and across Local Authority boundaries, work began to create a new youth offer, providing young people on the local estates with the chance to participate in and create activities or real value to them. Activities that would enable them to develop a range of life skills.
The Young Person’s Development Programme – SafeSpot – is what emerged with support from LBC. Now young people aged 7-15 have a place that they can go to to learn new skills, access new opportunities or just make new friends.« Back to Home
